Toilet training your puppy
One of the big problems with the training of our dogs is how to teach our puppy where to go to relieve themselves.
It is essential when you do not punish him in front of us, as he may associate that urinating in front of us is equal to punishment and will not even go on the street if we are there.
Once the dog is always urinating outside, you may tell him off when he does it at home.
It is no use rubbing his nose in the urine or hitting, as the dog does not associate the punishment with the pee, we can only shout at him at the right time before he goes.
Dogs tend to their needs where they feel safe, usually at home. With this in mind, it is possible this is why he finds it hard to relieve himself in the outside. It may be that after a long walk without results, the first thing that the dog does when he gets home is his needs.
A good trick to teach the dog to go outside, is to return home and once in the door, turn around and continue the walk. The dog will be eager to get home to pee / poo and seeing that you turn to home he will be preparing to do so. But not entering, he will haveto retain, so after tricking him 2-3 times, he will not be able to hold it anymore and have no choice but to do it outside, then you reward and commend.
When he starts to learn to do his needs outside, the first thing you need to do every day is to take him out and last thing before bed, thus creating a cycle that the dog can learn. It is also important that the dog always eats at the same hours.
If he starts spinning or going to the door with anxiety, take him for a walk, as he is possibly telling us he needs to go.
Keep in mind that a puppy can not hold on as long as an adult dog, so we will have to adapt to their needs, at least 3 or 4 times a day, always try to take him out at the same times.
