Teaching a dog to sit
One of the basic commands to teach a dog is "sit" because it is easy to teach.
The ideal age to start training a dog to respond to the sit command, is from two months, but even the more adult dogs can learn this simple order. It is also a very importante command needed on walks, feed time and basic behavour training.
The steps are:
1. Start by saying the word "sit" every time the dog
sits by himself. Teach him to associate the word with the action.
2. Take a reward (such as your dog's favorite treat), and have in
hand.
3. Sit on the floor near your pet, so you are at the same
level as your dog. In a dog's eye, you are less threatening when you
are sitting.
4. Slowly move the treat around the head of your dog. The
intention is to make the dog smell it and follow it with his nose. His
dog will have 2 options: go back to stand or sit.
Sitting will be easier.
5. As he sits, you say "sit" and give him the award. This is the key to
all the training. You have to give the reward to the dog
immediatelyafter the right action.
6. Praise your dog and show your joy.
7. Repeat these steps 3 to 5 times. No more because the dog will get bored.
You can repeat all the steps several times throughout the day. The
important thing is that not to do no more than 5 repetitions at a time or the dog will
bored.
Good Luck!!
